Peer Volunteers’ Journeys Through Training and Engagement in Older Adult Communities: Descriptive Qualitative Study

This study interviewed 13 older adult volunteers who were trained to support other older adults' mental health, exploring their reasons for volunteering, what they valued about the training, and how future training could be made more inclusive.

Effects of choral singing on depression and anxiety in older adults: A randomized controlled trial

This trial found that a choir-singing programme reduced depression and anxiety symptoms in older adults, adding new mental health benefits to the same research group's earlier work showing choir singing also helps protect thinking skills.

The impact of performing arts on mental health, social connection, and creativity in university students: a Randomised Controlled Trial

In a 10-week pilot programme combining drumming and dance for university students, participants' mental health, quality of life, and creativity improved, while a comparison group who didn't take part actually got worse over the same period.

Screening for depressive disorders: Validation of the Patient Health Questionnaire for Adolescents (PHQ-A) in a population-based multi-ethnic Asian sample

This study tested a depression screening questionnaire for teenagers (PHQ-A) on a large, multi-ethnic Singaporean sample, finding it worked well for spotting major depression (using a cutoff score of 10 or higher) but not as well for milder mood or anxiety problems.

ChatGPT-estimated occupational complexity predicts cognitive outcomes and cortical thickness above and beyond socioeconomic status among older adults

This study used ChatGPT to rate how complex people's past jobs were, then showed that this AI-generated score predicted older Singaporeans' thinking skills and brain health better than standard measures like income or education level.

Factors associated with mental health literacy, depression, and anxiety amongst Indonesian adolescents

In a study of 615 Indonesian teenagers, better knowledge about mental health was linked to more positive attitudes and greater willingness to seek help, but not directly to lower depression or anxiety, showing that knowledge alone isn't enough to improve mental health.

Risk and protective factors associated with adolescent depression in Singapore: A systematic review

This review paper looks at what puts Singaporean teenagers at risk of depression, and what protects them from it, aiming to guide better local prevention and early support efforts.

Associations between Physical Performance Tests with Cognitive Changes: The Moderating Effect of Cognitive Status

Using the same group of older Asian adults as a related study, this research looked further at how simple physical tests relate to changes in thinking skills, finding that a person's existing memory status affects how strong this link is.

Investigating the efficacy of ergothioneine to delay cognitive decline in mild cognitively impaired subjects: A pilot study

In a small trial, an antioxidant supplement called ergothioneine was safe for older adults with mild memory problems over one year, and was linked to better verbal memory and a steadier brain-health marker, compared with a placebo group whose memory and markers got worse.

Youth Epidemiology and Resilience (YEAR) in a student population: Prevalence and predictors of mental health symptoms.

The Singapore Youth Epidemiology and Resilience (YEAR) study looked at how common mental health symptoms are among a large, representative group of school students aged 11 to 18, and what social and family factors increase or protect against risk.
